Grouse, Hemlock and Smith Lakes from Wrights Lake trailhead-Desolation Wilderness

My hiking buddies and I did a seven miler in the Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe. From 6900'
Wrights Lake trailhead to 8700' at Smith Lake our destination we passed Grouse and Hemlock Lakes. Those who didn't want to
attempt to climb the peak overlooking Smith Lake remained at Hemlock. . Mary, Lise and I spanned huge granite slabs to climb
within 50 yards of the summit before deciding that the loose rock was too dangerous to continue. We
returned to Hemlock and I went in for my swim as I'd promised. Was very, very icy water so swim was all of about 4 fast
strokes out and back!
